God, Help Me Be Present in the Life I Prayed For

How many things in your life today were once things you prayed for?

I asked myself that question recently, and it stopped me in my tracks.

While I've been thinking about everything I still want God to do, everything I'm waiting for, and everything I hope will change, I realized something:

I'm standing in the middle of prayers He's already answered.

There was a time when I prayed for some of the things

I now rush through every day. Things I begged God for have become so normal that sometimes I forget they were once miracles to me.

How many answered prayers have I stopped noticing because I'm already focused on the next one?

It's so easy to become consumed with what's next—the next goal, milestone, opportunity, accomplishment, or season. There is nothing wrong with continuing to dream and believing God for more.

But I don't want to spend my entire life waiting for what's next and miss what God is doing right now.

Motherhood has taught me this in ways I never expected.

There are days filled with appointments, responsibilities, cleaning, cooking, worrying, planning, working, and making sure everyone has what they need. Sometimes I'm so focused on getting through the day that I forget:

This is my life.

Not the life that's coming later.

Not the life I'll enjoy once things become easier.

This one. Right now.

These are the days my daughters are growing up in.

The laughter coming from another room.

The toys scattered across the floor.

The little voices calling, "Mommy."

The hugs.

The bedtime routines.

The small victories.

Even some of the chaos I complain about today may become something I miss one day.

I don't want to look back and realize I spent so much time worrying about tomorrow that I wasn't fully present for today.

I'm also learning that being grateful doesn't mean pretending everything is perfect.

There are still things I'm praying about. There are things I wish were different and places where I'm still waiting for God to move.

But I can be grateful for where I am while still believing God for where I'm going.

Both can exist at the same time.

I can pray for my daughter's next milestone while celebrating the one she just reached.

I can work toward another goal while being proud of what I've already accomplished.

I can have dreams for tomorrow without rushing through today.

I want to become more intentional about that.

I want to put my phone down sometimes.

I want to stop thinking about the next task long enough to enjoy what's happening in front of me.

I want to thank God for ordinary days.

I want to look around my home—even when it's messy—and recognize the blessings living inside of it.

Because what if this is part of the answered prayer too?

"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it." — Psalm 118:24

Not tomorrow.

Not when everything works out.

Not when the next prayer is answered.

This day.

So while I'm still praying for what's next, I'm learning to thank God for what's now.

Because one day I may look back at this season—the ordinary mornings, the messy house, my children's laughter, the challenges, the little victories, and even the things that currently feel routine—and realize:

These were the good days, too.

I don't want to wait until they're memories to recognize that they were blessings.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the prayers You have already answered, including the ones I've become so accustomed to that I've forgotten I once prayed for them.

Help me slow down and recognize Your goodness in the life You've given me today. When my mind becomes consumed with tomorrow, bring me back to the people and blessings You've placed in front of me right now.

Teach me to celebrate where I am while still trusting You with where I'm going. Help me appreciate the ordinary moments, the small victories, the laughter, the lessons, and even the imperfect days.

Lord, I still have dreams. I still have prayers I'm waiting for You to answer. But don't let my desire for what's next make me overlook what You've already done.

Help me be present in the life I prayed for.

Give me a grateful heart for yesterday, faith for tomorrow, and the wisdom to fully live today.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
